About Owner

Chalet USA owners Helen Gienke & Rob Brown stumbled upon Colorado, USA in 2001, whilst on career break from their UK Marketing jobs, skied there all winter & never looked back. We wanted to share this fantastic USA ski holiday experience with other UK skiers, so we set up Chalets USA in 2004. We live in Colorado, know the ski resorts and the accommodation and can give you advice of finding the right skiing holiday for you. www.chalets-usa.co.uk

Spring Skiing Events in USA

Spring skiing in the USA is a great time of year because...
1) good accumulated snow & more fresh snow - March is known to be the snowiest month of the season
2) warm sunshine = goggle tan & less layers ๐Ÿ˜Ž
3) fun weekend events like live music & excuses to dress up in silly costumes ๐ŸŽต

There's no better way to celebrate spring. Starting in March through May many ski resorts host a variety of spring events that include live music, skiing across water, ski/snowboard competitions, & parades. Let's see what some ski resorts are offering....

Aspen Mountain has events all through March & April - major ski races, fun amateur ski competitions, & music weekends.
This weekend (March 6th) starts it out with America's Uphill which is a 2.5 mile & 3000' vertical climb up Aspen Mountain. If climbing isn't your style, watching it & cheering people on can be fun too!

To follow, the next weekend (March 11-14th), is the Aprรฉs Ski Cocktail Classic which involves all things aprรฉs ski like pop-up bars, mixologist competitions & sampling, spirit paired dinners, & the Great Aprรฉs Ski Pub Crawl & Cocktail Competition. So if you are half & half with the skiing & aprรฉs ski, this is the event for you!

At the end of March, Aspen will be hosting the U.S. Alpine Tech Championship. This event is a major ski racing competition for the elite racers like Michaela Shiffrin & Ted Ligety, of the U.S. Ski Team. These racers are top notch & exciting to watch!
Finally, to finish out the month of March, the BudLight Spring Jam will be from March 20-27th and have concerts, parties, & friendly competitions almost every night in Aspen Snowmass. It is fun for the whole family!

If you can make it to Aspen in March, it is an exciting month not to miss!

Vail Mountain Ski Resort has a couple spring events starting at the end of March into April so if you have time, go from Aspen to Vail & get a well-rounded ski holiday. ๐Ÿ˜‰

On March 28th, Pink Vail, the biggest ski day to conquer cancer, is an all-day event bringing nearly 3,000 people to the resort participating in costume contests, deck parties, live music, fundraising, & more. This event benefits the Shaw Cancer Center to enhance patient care & programming where all of the Pink Vail donations & registration fees goes toward. It will be a warm, fun, fulfilling event!
Following, Taste of Vail & Spring Back to Vail will happen from April 1-4 & 9-12, where you can experience the exceptional foods of Vail, CO & enjoy the sunny skiing & aprรฉs ski celebrations!
Then Powabunga, a music festival, will be Vail's closing weekend (April 17-19) which will host big names, like Fleetwood Mac, Griz, & Claptone, playing all weekend to finish out the season with a bang!

The other ski resorts on our webpage host similar spring events like Breckenridge has an Easter celebration, a Spring Finale, & the Imperial Challenge which is a winter-based triathlon!
Check out the rest of our partnering ski resorts to see what else they have to offer.

Cheers!

Love is in the Air!

๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’˜๐Ÿ’˜๐Ÿ’—๐Ÿ’—๐Ÿ’˜๐Ÿ’˜๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’™

Happy Valentine's Day! The day where you celebrate love either in relationships, friendships, family or all of the above with gifts, dinner, getting together, or with a simple phone call. Although, there's nothing like receiving a special gift from a special someone to feel loved and appreciated. ๐Ÿ’–๐Ÿ’—
Gifts can be in many ways special like going to a new restaurant (at a ski resort), receiving a homemade gift, having a day to yourself (skiing), or a ski holiday in the USA. ๐Ÿ˜‰

If you haven't found a gift or forgot that it's almost February 14th, here are some last minute ideas!

A crocheted hat because homemade gifts are always great! (Even if it isn't handmade by you, it'll feel handmade.)

Crocheted hats

A new ski jacket because warmth is important.

Ski jackets

A new pair of ski pants to go with the new ski jacket.

A new pair of thermals to wear underneath the ski jacket and pants & to show off at aprรจs ski happy hour.

Men's ski thermals set

Women's ski thermals set

A new pair of ski mittens or gloves, whichever you prefer, because warmth, again, is important.

Insulated ski mittens

Insulated & waterproof ski gloves

Some new goggles to keep the sun & snow out of your eyes and terrain visibility superb.

Zion ski goggles

Well, hopefully this helps! If it doesn't help with last minute ideas, it'll help with a ski gear checklist because you will need all of these things for a ski holiday!

Happy Valentine's Day! ๐Ÿ’˜

Restaurant Review

When booking a ski holiday you go through a checklist to make sure essential steps are completed: flights, accommodation, equipment and clothing, lessons and lift tickets, and other activities, but sometimes what to eat and where to go goes on the back-burner until you get to town and need to make a quick decision. You try to ask "locals" or the concierge, read Yelp reviews, or walk around seeing what pulls your attention which usually has a high success rate. But why not be prepared ahead of time? Maybe not all meals but how about grabbing coffee or quick snacks or treats?

We went on an early season trip to Breckenridge, CO and while we were checking out properties, the village, and town, we made stops at some coffee shops for some quick energy and a break to re-evaluate our explorations.

One of them, Cuppa Joe, is off the main street in a cute building with surrounding businesses, like a yoga studio. As we walked in, the airy open atmosphere and friendly staff welcomed us. We ordered some much needed coffee, which was freshly brewed and properly made, and some breakfast food - avocado toast, breakfast sandwich on bagel, and egg burrito, all with fresh tasty ingredients. We were thoroughly impressed and satisfied. One other memorable thing was a couple having their wedding photos taken with some coffee, flowers, and love - made it a cozy small town feel. Cuppa Joe is a must-stop for breakfast before hitting the slopes!

Another shop we went to a few times was Clint's Bakery and Coffee House. It is located on the main street and a smaller shop inside yet still cozy and fun atmostphere. It had a huge variety of treats like muffins, banana bread, brownies, pies, biscotti, etc with gluten free and vegan options which we naturally tried: the chocolate banana bread, blueberry oat bar, and banana bran muffin. Besides the treats, the coffee was great, freshly brewed, and properly made with lots of choses on the menu. We never had a bad experience. This is place for a quick coffee and treat to keep your energy up for the rest of the ski day!
On another note, there's a deli attached that makes fresh sandwiches with unique ingredients. You definitely can't go wrong with walking into Clint's Bakery and Coffee House.

We love coffee, snacks, treats, and cozy shops to finish up work or sit and relax after physical activity (like skiing). These 2 places we highly recommend anytime of the day so keep these in mind when booking your ski holiday in Breckenridge, CO.
